Youssef Bennani, an executive at Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc, has been elected chairman of the board of directors at Domain Therapeutics SA of France which is developing drug candidates that target G protein-coupled receptors. Dr Bennani currently serves as vice president of research and development at the Vertex site in Laval, Quebec. Prior to this, he was vice president of drug innovation at the company’s headquarters in Massachusetts. Previously he held leadership positions at Athersys Inc, Abbott Laboratories (now AbbVie Inc) and Ligand Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Dr Bennani holds a PhD in chemistry and a master in business administration from the Lake Forest School of Management in Chicago, Illinois.
Domain Therapeutics announced the appointment on 27 May 2014.
