Yong-Jun Liu, formerly of MedImmune/AstraZeneca, has joined Sanofi SA to lead research and development with a particular focus on building the company’s early-stage pipeline. He will report to Elias Zerhouni, president of global R&D.
Dr Liu is an immunologist whose work has led to the development of several drug targets in the areas of allergy, immunology and oncology.
He has 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and at leading medical research centers including as founding director of the Cancer Immunology Research Institute at MD Anderson and chief scientific officer at the Baylor Research Institute.
Dr Liu received a doctor of medicine degree from the Norman Bethune University School of Medicine in China and a doctorate in immunology from the University of Birmingham in the UK.
Sanofi announced the appointment on 29 March 2016.
