ViCentra BV, the developer of an insulin patch pump AID system called Kaleido, has appointed Tom Arnold as chief executive officer. With almost 25 years of leadership experience in diabetes and medical technology, Mr Arnold’s role will be to scale manufacturing, drive European expansion and position ViCentra to enter the US market. Kaleido, one of the world's smallest, lightest and most precise insulin patch pumps, currently has approximately 2,500 active users in the Netherlands, France and Germany. Mr Arnold’s youngest daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 11 months and has worn an insulin pump for 17 years. This experience has given him unique insight into the daily challenges of diabetes management. Previously a senior executive at Medtronic, Mr Arnold played a key role in launching the world's first hybrid closed-loop insulin pump system. Mr Arnold holds a BSc in industrial engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Michigan, both US.
