Steffen Thirstrup, a medical doctor with a PhD in pharmacology, has been named chief medical officer at the European Medicines Agency in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In this role he will provide scientific leadership across the agency and its scientific committees and shape the EMA’s contribution to EU health initiatives. Dr Thirstrup previously led the division for medicines assessment and clinical trials at the Danish Health and Medicines Authority and was the Danish member of the EMA’s human medicines committee, the CHMP.
The EMA announced the appointment on 1 June 2022.
