Srinivas Akkaraju, a long-term investor in the life science sector, has joined Sofinnova Ventures in the US as a general partner. Dr Akkaraju was most recently a managing director at New Leaf Venture Partners and before that, co-founder and managing director at Panorama Capital. He holds MD and PhD degrees in immunology from the Stanford University School of Medicine. Simultaneously, Sofinnova has promoted Anand Mehra to the position of general partner from partner. Dr Mehra led Sofinnova’s investment in Vicept Therapeutics Inc which was acquired by Allergan Inc in 2011 and also served on the board of NextWave Pharmaceuticals Inc which was acquired by Pfizer Inc in 2012. The California-based Sofinnova Ventures focuses on US biotech investments while its affiliate in Paris, Sofinnova Partners focuses on European biotech. Both companies operate independently of one another but they share the same investment strategy.
Sofinnova announced the appointment and promotion on 2 May 2013.
