Serge Weinberg, a lawyer and former chief of staff of the French budget minister, Laurent Fabius, has been co-opted by Sanofi-Aventis to serve as a director. Mr Weinberg is replacing Gunter Thielen, who resigned from the company for personal reasons. The board is expected to appoint Mr Weinberg as its non-executive chairman following a general meeting of shareholders on 17 May 2010.
Mr Weinberg is founder of the investment firm, Weinberg Capital Partners, and has held numerous executive positions in French industry. He is a member of the board of the French Association of Private Enterprises and a founding member and treasurer of the Brain and Spinal Cord Institute in Paris, France.
