Raul Kohan, president of Global Animal Health, Merck, is to be appointed chief executive officer of a new joint venture in animal health that is being created by Sanofi-Aventis and Merck & Co. Inc. The venture will be called Merial-Intervet.
Mr Kohan will start his new job once the joint venture is approved by antitrust authorities in the US and Europe, which is expected to be in the first quarter of 2011. The new Merial-Intervet venture will have a broad portfolio of animal health products and also provide services in pharmaceuticals and biologics. Mr Kohan joined Schering-Plough (now Merck) in 1984 and gradually assumed positions of increasing responsibility including deputy head of animal health and senior vice president, corporate excellence and administrative services. He graduated from the General San Martin Military Academy in Argentina and holds an MBA in economics from the University of Buenos Aires.
