Novartis AG has named Jonathan Symonds, currently managing director for investment banking at Goldman Sachs, as chief financial officer designate. He will join the company on 1 September 2009 as deputy CFO reporting to Raymund Breu who will retire on 31 March 2010. Mr Symonds will then become CFO.
Mr Symonds was previously CFO at AstraZeneca where his job incorporated finance, mergers and acquisitions, business development and licensing. Before that, he was a partner at the accountants, KPMG.
