Novartis has appointed Jeff George to head its Alcon eye care division, succeeding Kevin Buehler who is retiring. The appointment takes effect on 1 May. Mr George was previously head of the company’s generics unit Sandoz. He will continue to serve on the executive committee of the company and report to Joseph Jimenez, the chief executive. Mr George is a graduate of Carleton College in Minnesota, US and holds an MA from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard University.
Separately, Novartis has appointed Richard Francis to replace Mr George at Sandoz. Mr Francis joins Novartis from Biogen Idec. He is a British citizen and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Novartis announced the appointments on 9 April 2014.
