Ioanna Chinou of Greece has been elected vice-chair of the European Medicine Agency’s Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) for three years from 31 October 2007. The committee’s chair, Konstantin Keller of Germany, was reelected for the same period.
Professor Chinou is associate professor of pharmacognosy and chemistry of natural products at the School of Pharmacy, University of Athens. She joined the committee in November 2005 and is also vice-chair of the HMPC Working Party on Community Monographs and Community List.
Dr Keller, a pharmacist, has been director of the division of herbal, homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products at the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) since 1985.
