Maria Beatriz da Silva Lima, a professor at the University of Lisbon in Portugal, has been elected chair of the scientific committee of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) in Brussels. The IMI is a medical research partnership between the European Commission and the European industry federation, Efpia. Professor da Silva Lima is an expert in pharmacology and pharmacotoxicology.
The IMI has also elected Markus Perola as vice chair of the committee. Professor Perola works at Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare. His research focus is on genetics and other risk factors for common diseases.
The IMI announced the appointments on 15 January 2014.
