The European Medicine Agency’s main scientific committee, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), has elected a new chairman and vice chairman for three-year terms, starting 18 June 2007.
The new chair is Eric Abadie, a physician specialising in internal medicine, diabetology and cardiology. Dr Abadie has been vice chair of the committee since 2001 as well as chair of the EMEA’s pharmacogenetics working party. He qualified at Paris University in 1981 and has been a resident and consultant in several Paris hospitals in addition to having worked for the pharmaceutical industry. Dr Abadie is director of therapeutic evaluation at the French regulatory agency, Afssaps.
The new CHMP vice chair is Tomas Salmonson, a pharmacist specialising in pharmacokinetics. Mr Salmonson is a senior expert at the Swedish Medical Products Agency. He has been a member of the EMEA’s main scientific committee since 1999.
