New CEO at UK healthcare regulator MHRA

Lawrence Tallon has been appointed as chief executive officer of the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), effective on 1 April. He will succeed June Raine who has led MHRA since 2019 and is retiring. Mr Tallon will lead the MHRA’s work to accelerate patient access to innovative medicines and medical devices, as the agency works to enhance its role as a sovereign regulator and strengthen international partnerships. Mr Tallon will join MHRA from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Previously he was managing director of the Shelford Group, which represents some of England’s NHS teaching hospitals, and also served as director of strategy, planning and performance at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Tallon holds a master’s degree in health policy from Imperial College London, UK.

The UK government announced the appointment on 3 March 2025.
