Sanofi SA is to nominate two new independent directors at the French company’s shareholders’ meeting on 10 May. They are Melanie Lee, currently chief scientific officer at BTG Plc, and Bernard Charlès, vice chairman and chief executive of Dassault Systèmes SE, the French software producer. Dr Lee, who has been recognised by the UK government for her services to science, was previously CEO at Syntaxin Ltd. Following Syntaxin’s sale to Ipsen SA, she helped launch NightsaRx, a new gene therapy company backed by the Syncona investment group. Dr Lee obtained a PhD at the National Institute for Medical Research in London and then worked as a molecular genetics postdoc, first at Imperial College London and then at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.

Dr Charlès is a member of the Academy of Technology in France. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering.

Sanofi announced the appointments on 2 March 2017.
