Luke Miels joins GlaxoSmithKline

Luke Miels, formerly head of AstraZeneca Plc’s business in Europe, has joined GlaxoSmithKline Plc to become president of global pharmaceuticals. He will report to Emma Walmsley, the chief executive designate. Mr Miels will be responsible for a medicine and vaccine portfolio with annual sales of more than £15 billion. He joined AstraZeneca from Roche where he oversaw pharmaceuticals in the Asia Pacific region. Before that he was an executive at Sanofi-Aventis.

Mr Miels holds a BSc in biology from Flinders University and a Master of Business Administration from the Macquarie University, both in Australia.

GSK announced the appointment on 19 January 2017.
