Joseph Jimenez, the chief executive of Novartis, is to take over the position of president of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations on an interim basis following the departure of Christopher Viehbacher from Sanofi SA. Mr Viehbacher had been expected to lead the federation until June 2015, but he resigned from this position following his departure from Sanofi. Mr Jimenez has been sharing the EFPIA vice presidency with Ulf Wiinberg, the CEO of H. Lundbeck AS.
Mr Jimenez was due to take over the presidency in June 2015. EFPIA said Mr Jimenez is expected to be formally confirmed in this position in early December.
EFPIA announced the appointment on 31 October, 2014.
