Ilona Reischl, an experienced regulator, has been elected chair of the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT). The CAT evaluates gene, cell and tissue engineered products for the EMA’s main scientific committee, which then issues an opinion on approval. Dr Reischl is an assessor at the Austrian Medicines and Medical Devices Agency where she has been head of the clinical trials unit. She holds a PhD in pharmacy from the University of Vienna and for nearly four years thereafter, was a visiting associate at the US Food and Drug Administration.
