Ian Garland has been named chief executive officer of Vernalis Plc, effective in December 2008. The position of CEO is currently vacant. Mr Garland is the former chief executive of Acambis Plc, the UK vaccine developer which was acquired by sanofi-aventis in September. Prior to that, he was chief financial officer of Arrow Therapeutics Ltd, a privately-held company engaged in the discovery and development of new anti-viral agents. He oversaw the company’s acquisition by AstraZeneca in February 2007.
In addition, Vernalis has appointed David Mackney as chief financial officer. Mr Mackney, previously interim CFO at Acambis, will join the company on 1 February 2009. He will replace Anthony Weir who is leaving the company.
