Ellen Strahlman has joined Becton, Dickinson and Company to fill the newly created position of chief medical officer and senior vice president for research and development. She was previously chief medical officer at GlaxoSmithKline Plc and worked in the office of the CEO as global head of neglected tropical diseases. Prior to GSK, Dr Strahlman held executive posts at Merck & Co Inc, Novartis and Pfizer Inc. She obtained her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a Master’s in Health Sciences from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Becton Dickinson announced the appointment on 13 March 2013.
