The France-based vaccine company Valneva SE has appointed David Lawrence, an experienced financial executive, as its chief financial officer. Simultaneously, it has named Wolfgang Bender as chief medical officer. Dr Bender’s appointment takes effect on 1 September.
Mr Lawrence has been CFO of Acambis Plc, which was acquired by Sanofi SA in 2008 and was head of finance and business development at Chiron Vaccines, a division of Chiron Corp which was acquired by Novartis in 2005. He has also held senior finance positions at GlaxoSmithKline Pc.
Dr Bender has worked in vaccine development at both Novartis and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. Prior to his appointment, he provided consulting services to Valneva.
Valneva announced the appointments on 1 August 2017.
