Christopher Viehbacher, the chief executive of Sanofi SA, has been named president-elect of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (Efpia). He will take up the position in June 2013 for a period of two years, replacing Sir Andrew Witty, the CEO of GlaxoSmithKline Plc. Mr Viehbacher started his career in finance at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Thereafter he worked for GSK for 20 years, most recently as president of pharmaceutical operations North America. He became CEO of Sanofi in December 2008.
Efpia announced the appointment on 6 November 2012.
