Christa Wirthumer-Hoche, head of the Austrian Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, has been elected chair of the management board at the European Medicines Agency. Dr Wirthumer-Hoche has been a member of the board since 2013 and vice-chair since March 2015. She succeeds Kent Woods who stepped down in December 2015. The appointment is for three years. Dr Wirthumer-Hoche holds a doctorate from the Technical University of Vienna and a diploma in chemistry and biochemistry.
