Charles Swanton, professor of personalised cancer medicine at University College London (UCL), has been appointed chief clinician at Cancer Research UK, succeeding Peter Johnson. He is also joining the charity’s executive board. Professor Swanton currently leads a team at the Francis Crick Institute on lung cancer and is a medical oncologist at University College London Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, he is a founding scientist of Achilles Therapeutics Ltd, a cancer immunotherapy company. Professor Swanton holds an MB/PhD from UCL and completed his doctorate with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
