Mario Polywka, a member of the supervisory board of Evotec SE, is to assume the job of interim chief executive following the resignation on 3 January of Werner Lanthaler. Evotec said that Mr Lanthaler, CEO since February 2009, is stepping down for personal reasons. During the transition, he will act as an advisor to the supervisory board especially in relation to the company’s work in making medicines more available to countries in Africa and less developed countries in Asia.
Dr Polywka was Evotec’s chief operating officer for 13 years until 2018 before moving to the supervisory board. He holds a DPhil degree in organic chemistry from the University of Oxford, UK. Evotec said it has started an internal and external search for a new chief executive.
