AstraZeneca Plc has appointed Anders Ekblom as executive vice president for development with effect from 1 January 2009, replacing John Patterson, who is retiring. Mr Ekblom, currently vice president and head of global clinical development, will also join AstraZeneca’s senior executive team.
Mr Ekblom joined Astra AB in 1993 from the Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, where he was a senior lecturer and director for the Perianesthetic Unit. When Astra merged with Zeneca of the UK in 1998, Mr Ekblom assumed a number of executive positions. Most recently, he has been responsible for global clinical development, the largest single function in drug research and development at the company.
