Andrew Witty, the chief executive officer of GlaxoSmithKline, has become president of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (Efpia), effective 1 January 2010. Mr Witty as been Efpia vice president since 2008. He succeeds Arthur Higgins, the chief executive of Bayer HealthCare.
Mr Witty has been the GSK chief executive since May 2008. Previously he was president of GSK Pharmaceuticals Europe. He has worked for the UK multinational for 25 years.
