Rui Santos Ivo, a veteran regulator, has been elected vice chair of the management board of the European Medicines Agency which reviews and issues marketing authorisations for medicines sold in the EU. His term begins in October 2024 and will last for three years. Mr Ivo is president of the Portuguese National Authority of Medicines and Healthcare Products and also an associate professor medicines regulation at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Pharmacy. He holds a post graduate degree in health management, health law and pharmaceutical legislation from the University of Lisbon. He has been a member of the EMA management board since 2016.
The EMA announced the appointment on 4 October 2024.
