Emer Cooke, head of inspections at the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), has been appointed to the new position of international liaison officer to help manage the agency’s relationship with institutions outside of the European Union. She will take up her position on 1 January 2009.
Prior to coming to the agency, Ms Cooke worked in the Enterprise Directorate General at the European Commission in Brussels.
In addition to managing a network of pharmaceutical regulators in the EU, the EMEA has formal relationships with regulatory bodies elsewhere, most notably the US Food and Drug Administration. It also works with the World Health Organization on issues relating to the public health.
