Ellen Strahlman, formerly vice president, licensing and worldwide business development at Pfizer, has joined GlaxoSmithKline as chief medical officer.
An ophthalmologist, Dr Strahlman earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she completed her internship in general surgery and residency in ophthalmology. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Dr Strahlman serves on the Columbia University Medical & Science Technology Council and the Board of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
During her career, Dr Strahlman has been chief executive of Virogen Ltd; chief medical officer and global head of research and development for Bausch & Lomb and senior medical officer at the National Eye Institute at the US National Institutes of Health. She also had held senior positions at Merck and Novartis.
